The Moonlighting Curse and EO/Bensler
This video highlights how much uncertainty and confusion has existed since even Season 2 of Organized Crime. It was a fun tease back then because the whole return was fresh, and we assumed they were making a plan.
What it ALSO highlights is the archaic view of some members of the entertainment industry (I’m side eyeing you Carson Daly) that the “moonlighting curse” is a thing. That “curse” has been proven false MANY times now. Look at Grey’s Anatomy as just one example. The show didn’t stop just because MerDer happened. They still had stories to tell.
SVU and Organized Crime still have stories to tell with these two characters even AFTER they choose to take that step and try being together. How does it work? Do they heal together? Does Noah like him? Do Elliot’s kids accept? Does Olivia have issues professionally working with him? And on, and on.
Instead these show have made decisions that are DUMB, even if some of the scenes are EO fan favorites. A drugged “I Love You”, only to be followed by a letter mess from hell, Olivia sleeping with her GROOMER instead of making any effort with Elliot, a shift to “friends for now” but they don’t exist to each other for months, a therapist telling her to make a decision she STILL hasn’t made in ref to giving him a chance, a drunken Elliot admitting to Olivia’s Italian clone he is in love with her followed by nothing, Olivia seeing the possibility with Elliot but being paralyzed, an almost kiss that ended with Olivia in love with her Maytag instead of comfort from Elliot, months of silence, “It just wasn’t the right moment”, Olivia looking like she wanted to kiss him in urgent care, but oops he has to run UC AGAIN, but he’ll give her a 15,000 necklace first, and now NOTHING. WHAT was it all for??
Wolf Entertainment has an opportunity to fix it. Don’t leave a worse legacy than the proven wrong “moonlighting curse”. You’re currently creating something much worse with this waste and game playing. It’s turning opinions of SVU negative along with the uncertainty of Organized Crime. These two powerhouse actors and their characters have EARNED the right to shine TOGETHER.
